Does the Bible Matter In the 21 Century?

There was a recent opinion article by an Indian author claiming the Bible is the foot that hold America up. Well he is wrong and I have five good reasons.

Here is his option article:
Does the Bible Matter In The 21 Century?
by Vishal Mangalwadi

The answer to his question is no.

1. The Bible had no influence creating our Republic and there is no evidence proving so. Another mark against the author. Rejecting the Bible did not create Nazi Germany. Hitler was a Catholic and Nazi Germany used the local Lutheranism and Catholicism as an tool for the Nazi Party.

2. The reason why Plato rejected Democracy. He believed an Direct Democracy will lead to mob rule. Also believe and an idea of an Republican idea like Rome. This is why we used the Roman government system instead of the Athenian Democracy. He supported “Philosopher Kings.” America had an Philosopher king and he was Thomas Jefferson.

You should read Plato’s Republic. It’s FREE!
Plato’s Republic
3. Secularism DOES not make an entitlement culture. Many things created the entitlement culture like the ideals of Socialism during the 1860s. The Secularism that was part of America came from the Enlightenment age.

Age of Enlightenment

4. “Not just Islamic, but every culture that rejects the kingdom of God condemns itself to be ruled exclusively by sinful men.l”

So Europe is ruled by sinful men? How about Hindu, Buddhist, Shinto, Taoism cultures? Are they all sinful? I am an Buddhist who supports a secular state. Am I an sinful person?

5. “Almost everyone desires a happy marriage, but without the Bible, America cannot even define, let alone sustain marriage as one man–one woman, exclusive, and life-long relationship. The West became great because biblical monogamy harnessed sexual energy to build strong families, women, children, and men.”

One of the biggest lies on Earth. I described more here:

Grammar Issues

I recently received an comment about my last post.

Thank you for the honesty, but don’t expect me to have a master degree in English. I will do my best to fix my English problems.

“Traditional Marriage” Falsehood

Good news came out of the news today. The Arkansas Supreme Court has upheald a lower court ruling that banning gays and un-married couples from adopting or fosting children as un-constitutional.

The Court wrote:

“Act 1 directly and substantially burdens the privacy rights of ‘opposite-sex and same-sex individuals’ who engage in private, consensual sexual conduct in the bedroom by foreclosing their eligibility to foster or adopt children. The choice imposed on cohabiting sexual partners, whether heterosexual or homosexual, is dramatic. They must chose either to lead a life of private, sexual intimacy with a partner without the opportunity to adopt or foster children or forego sexual cohabitation and, thereby, attain eligibility to adopt or foster.”

This mean that single person, gay or un-married couples can adopt or foster a kid. Some opponents believe this marriage ruins “traditional marriage.”  Well what is “traditional marriage?” Well it means it marriage rules based off the local culture with the United States of America this is normally the Christian moral values. Most of our laws were based off of Christian morals laws set forth in the bible.  So the basis of this blog will be based on the Christian view. The idea of marriage is man and a woman has it’s start in Genesis 2:18 & 21-24:

18 The LORD God said, “It is not good for the man to be alone. I will make a helper suitable for him.”

21 So the LORD God caused the man to fall into a deep sleep; and while he was sleeping, he took one of the man’s ribs and then closed up the place with flesh. 22 Then the LORD God made a woman from the rib he had taken out of the man, and he brought her to the man.

23 The man said,

“This is now bone of my bones
and flesh of my flesh;
she shall be called ‘woman,’
for she was taken out of man.”

24 That is why a man leaves his father and mother and is united to his wife, and they become one flesh.

The last passage is important because this fully impacts the idea of the Christian view of marriage. That men and woman joined together as man and wife are merged into one “flesh” or unit. This passage also supports the view of the Christian’s ban of homosexuals getting married. Since god never said anything about two men joining together as flesh. Well we do know what the bible says about homosexuals:

Leviticus 20:13

13 “‘If a man has sexual relations with a man as one does with a woman, both of them have done what is detestable. They are to be put to death; their blood will be on their own heads.”

Romans 1:26-28

26 Because of this, God gave them over to shameful lusts. Even their women exchanged natural sexual relations for unnatural ones. 27 In the same way the men also abandoned natural relations with women and were inflamed with lust for one another. Men committed shameful acts with other men, and received in themselves the due penalty for their error.

28 Furthermore, just as they did not think it worthwhile to retain the knowledge of God, so God gave them over to a depraved mind, so that they do what ought not to be done.

With these passages and many others. Homosexuals are banned from getting married.

Think about the Children!

Now we have to figure out where did we get that children must require to have a mother and a father in a “traditional marriage?” Well lets go back to the book where the idea of marriage was told! Genesis!

Genesis 1:28

28 “God blessed them and said to them, “Be fruitful and increase in number; fill the earth and subdue it. Rule over the fish in the sea and the birds in the sky and over every living creature that moves on the ground.”

From this statement. It tells that god has order Adam and Eve to populate the Earth and subdue everything that is on the Earth. For some Christians this means that god endorse marriage only for the producing & raising of children. Gays can’t reproduce, single couples can’t either, and un-married couples is against god’s will. There are many passages in the bible on how about raising children.  Because of this Christians view that only married couples who are different sexes can only raise children. Anything other than that will only hurt children and it is against god’s will.

Do we need “Traditional Marriage?”

In the past few decades, there has been less people getting married. This is due too many reasons. Women are making more money, so they don’t need a man to support them and for some couples they believe marriage is not really needed. There is also a rise of single parents and un-married couples over the years. Also over the years that gays are more openly getting married or showing off that they are couples. Is this the end of traditional marriage? I clearly hope so.

What two adults do in their own private lives does not interfear or hurt others. I don’t think my lesbian friend and her partner is going to corrupt and destroy my marriage. There has been no evidence showing that government controlling who gets married protects marriage and it benefits the state.  Also divorce rates are still the same rate for decades. It shows that government controlled marriage still doesn’t work.

As for gay parents and single parents. Studies have clearly shown here and here. That kids raised by them lead normal and happy lives.  From my own experiences meeting with gay parents and single moms & fathers.  I see happy children. One for example is my niece. She rarely had a father figure in her life. I don’t believe my sister is in a hurry to find a father figure to fill the fatherless gap. I can say the same to one of my friends. They both have wonderful girls.

Government and Marriage

The best way to protect “marriage” is for the government too get out of the “marriage” business. The United States government is suppose to be a secular state and yet we get our marriage laws based off of Christian moral values.

I would be happy for me if my wife and I just went to the local court house and a judge got us married. Yet, there are many others who can’t do that in some states. Nearly half or more of the states and the federal government oppose same sex couples from getting married. Why is that? It is not because homosexuals are a threat too America. It is because the laws were written by Christians, so their views of marriage were the only views that the government supportive.

There were some laws passed recently by the people or the legislators. Banning gay marriage or limiting the rights of gays, single parents, and un-married couples to adoption or fostering. This is wrong because they are forcing their ethical values which others may disagree. Also why should the people vote about rights of the minority. This only brings tyranny of the majority like for example proposition 8 in California.

The best way to fix all this by making everyone file as “domestic partner” so everyone has equal rights. If they want “marriage” title also they can go too a church or any religious organization to do so.  This will make it much fairer.

Conclusion

We must value know that the idea of “traditional marriage” that we have brought up should be changed or removed. We lived in a different society now where same sex couples get married and get children. You don’t have to have a male or female partner to bring up normal kids. Two gay couples or a single parent can bring enough care & love in the word as an couple of the opposite sex.

Judge tells criminals to do bible study as another form of punishment.

I just saw this today. Houston Judge John Clinton just started his job four months ago has found another option for convicted criminals to serve their time. He has offered criminals an option to do bible study than do community service.

He has order them to either do community service or read a bible study book. The book is called Heart of the Problem: How to Stop Coping and Find the Cure for Your Struggles by Kerry L. Skinner and Henry Brandt. Both authors are Christian counselor and Dr. Skinnner (I assume a Doctorate of Theology) is a associate pastor at a Baptist church. It’s basically a Christian self help book that uses the Christian god as a way to help people out with problems.

The problem I have with this is that he is violating the “Establishment” clause of our Constitution.

“Congress shall make no law respecting an establishment of religion”

The Judge is basically endorsing the Christian religion too the criminals. “All I was trying to do was help,” he said. “I was told about the book. I received the book. I read the book. I thought, ‘Hey this is a great book.’ Again, me thinking based on my faith, not thinking in general.”

I am glad that the judge decided not to do this again and he admitted that he used his faith to cloud his judgement.

I have always believed that religion should have no part of government. Religion sometimes always clouds the minds of those who are in power. They believe they are doing the right thing, but in reality they are doing the wrong thing by forcing others to endorse their beliefs. Gays have been hurt by religious in government and women who want to keep their reproductive rights. Religious morality and dogma should never be used as a basis of law. It will cause suffering of others who don’t share the same views.  I just hope this is a good lesson that changes things, but I believe this will not be the case. There will be others in the future who will do this, but there will others to remind them.

“Nothing could be more dangerous to the existence of this Republic than to introduce religion into politics” – Robert Green Ingersoll

Let’s say thanks too the creator who created us.

We were made of hundreds of millions of many different types of atoms. Those atoms were created by the death of many stars. (Hah! You thought I converted. 😉 ) All the elements we know of today were created by the death of huge stars. When huge stars die like red giants. They die a violent death. When you go to your kitchen and cook with an iron skillet. You are holding an item that kills stars. Stars work by producing fusion. Fusion works by combining hydrogen in which turns into helium. In big stars, the helium will turn into other heavy elements until it reaches too the element of Iron. When Iron is produced under a second the star explodes into a super nova. The super nova pushes all the elements into space. Also for a few seconds after the explosion. Some of the iron turns into heavier elements like gold and lithium. This is why elements like gold is rare.

When you look at your body. Look at your left and right arms. Think of this. Your left arm is made of the atoms of one dead star and the right arm is made of another dead star. Without the death of stars we will not be here. There is no loop hole to get out of that idea. Thank you stars for your deaths help create our wonderful solar system and the life that was created from it.
